Biography: Cynthia Wood holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from University of CA, Irvine. She has studied flute with world re-known flutist and composer James Newton and assisted Mr. Newton in compiling his book of exercises for the flute. She also studied classical and ensemble work with flutist Larry Kaplan of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has taken master classes with Louis Moyse. As a performance major student at UCLA she studied with Los Angeles studio musician/flutist Sheridan Stokes who also received a lifetime achievement award from the National Flute Association and of which Cynthia was also a member.

She began teaching piano to young beginners since being known as a music teacher in the south Orange County area, she was called by the Capistrano Unified School District Music Director to teach a piano course at Oak Grove Elementary School in Aliso Viejo. There she instructed 360 second and third graders piano and music fundamentals in a program designed by UCI called M.I.N.D. music. From that experience,
her reputation grew as a piano teacher and her private piano studio of young beginner piano students grew from that experience. She taught 20 students in every class , 5 days a week with keyboards with headphones. Out of 360 students encouraged by Mrs. Wood to compose their own pieces, 90 of the students performed their own works at the end of the year music program for the parents. The instruction to them was they could only compose their pieces using only the notes they knew how to sing, read, write and play.

She has played in various classical and jazz ensembles including the then called Aliso Viejo Symphony Orchestra now known as the South Coast Symphony Orchestra. She has free-lanced as a solo flutist for churches and small classical orchestras and chamber music ensembles in Orange County, CA. She leads an ensemble called Trio Sonate that perform for various occasions and settings.
